Maine Maritime Academy is a public, co-educational college located in the coastal town of Castine, Maine, U.S.A. Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) is Maine’s largest, oldest and most diverse community college with over 6,000 students, more than 40 degree programs and 2 campuses. The Landing School, located in Arundel, Maine, was founded in 1978 near an historic shipbuilding site that dates back to the 1600s. The first classes were focused solely on wooden boatbuilding. By the early 2000s, programs in Yacht Design, Marine Systems, and Composite Boatbuilding had been added. 2023 saw the addition of the Boatyard Management program. Students who complete two one-year diploma programs and some additional General Education courses are eligible for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Marine Industry Technology. Students come from diverse backgrounds and typically range in age from 17 to 70. We are proud that our 1,600+ alumni, who come to us from every continent except Antarctica, have found meaningful careers in an industry that is happy to welcome them because of the skills they have learned and the work ethic they have embraced during their time here.
