Sector Spotlights events feature industry leaders who will share the latest in innovation and collaboration, while providing partnership opportunities through in-person connections.
In April, we’re excited to highlight what’s happening in Aroostook County and invite you to join us at the events below.
Maine’s northernmost county, Aroostook County is often referred to as the “The County” and shares borders with two Canadian provinces, Quebec and New Brunswick. Natural resources (highlighted by agriculture and forestry), manufacturing, and tourism (particularly outdoor recreation) comprise a large portion of economic activity in the region. While perhaps still best know for potatoes, The County is an emerging hub for wind power.
Presque Isle plays a vital role in regional logistics through its integrated airport, rail, and road networks. The airport boasts the second-largest commercial runway in Maine and a $29 million dollar expansion project includes plans for an aerospace research and development park.
Loring Commerce Centre, the former Loring Air Force Base, is a busy commercial, industrial, and aviation park with over 25 business entities employing more than 750 highly-qualified personnel.
Two talent attraction initiatives – one in collaboration with Northern Maine Development Commission focused on young professionals and the other based at Northern Maine Community College targeting individuals with refugee status or international visas, which uniquely integrates education, housing, and employment on a community college campus – are underway to foster a vibrant business community.
