International Opportunities for the Boat Building & Maritime Industries (PDF)
MITC research report, June 2008
All boats coming into the EU or being sold in the EU must be CE marked. To comply, many companies work with the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI), a certification body in Brussels with inspectors all over the world available to conduct the inspections. The process is that a boat must be built and tested according to EU Recreational Craft Directive 1994/25/EC and Amendment 2003/44/EC and then inspected. All paperwork is sent to Brussels for review and, if all is okay, the CE documentation is issued.
The boat builder may go to the IMCI website at www.imci.org for applications, checklists and documents. The applicable directive and amendment can be found here. You need to click on “EN” for the English language versions.
